Yesterday (Sunday, 31 October 1999) Bud Anderson and three others
discovered a EURASIAN KESTREL at around 10:00 a.m. on Chuckanut Drive
approximately 0.8 mile north of the Bow Post Office in Skagit County,
Washington. They observed it closely for around 15 minutes as it hunted in
a field by a large dairy barn, until it dropped down behind an embankment
and out of sight. Although all four observers spent the rest of the day
looking for it, as well as all morning today, they never saw it again.
This area is part of the Samish Flats, a major wintering raptor site, so
hopes are high that the bird will show up again there or elsewhere in
western Washington.
The BirdBox phone number is (425) 454-2662.
