Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for April 25th,  
2008.  This report covers a two week period and will be updated again on  May 
2nd.
 
A  BOHEMIAN WAXWING was observed and photographed on the 12th at the  South 
County Bike Trail in South Kingston. The bird was near the bridge over  White 
Horn Brook which is about 1/2 mile east of where the bike path intersects  
Route.  Although this species of Waxwing has been found in neighboring  states 
with some regularity this winter, this is only the third report of a  single
bird
from Rhode Island.  The bird was not relocated after that  day.
 
On the 13th, 2 CASPIAN TERNS, 2 adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS and 28  
GLOSSY IBIS  were found at Sachuest Saltmarsh in Middletown. On the 19th, 8  
CASPIAN TERNS were recorded there, along with 4 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS.
 
A KING EIDER was observed at Camp Cronin in Narraganset on the 21st.   
Another KING EIDER was found off the southwest corner of  Block  Island.
 
A MANX SHEARWATER was seen from the Block Island ferry on the 22nd.
 
A report from Rose Island included: 4 pairs of BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS,  
between 60 and 80 GLOSSY IBIS, including 15 breeding pairs, and one pair of  
AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS.
 
In Jamestown, over 300 GLOSSY IBIS were seen feeding in the field on the  
south side of Weeden Lane on the 13th, and in the Fox Hill Marsh, 1 LITTLE BLUE 
HERON was reported.
 
In Westerly, along the Pawcatuck River, 1 BLACK VULTURE, 1 COMMON  RAVEN, 2 
RIRI
Westerly, a PINE SISKIN visited a feeder.
 
Another 2 BLACK VULTURES were seen on the 19th in Burdickville,  Charlestown.
 
On the 13th in Charlestown, at Central Beach, a pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL  
were found.
 
At Swan Point Cemetery in Providence on the 14th, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED  SAPSUCKER.
 
In Arcadia Management Area, along the Ben Utter Trail, 1 LOUISIANA  
WATERTHRUSH, 1 PILEATED WOODPECKER and 2 PURPLE FINCHES were seen on the  20th.
 
Several AMERICAN PIPITS were observed behind the Wastewater treatment plant  
at Scarborough Beach in Narraganset.
 
On the 20th, 1 RED KNOT was found at Napatree Point in Westerly. 
 
Two MARSH WRENS were reported at the Jacob's Point marsh on the  
Bristol/Warren line on the 17th.
 
In Exeter on the 18th, a WHIP-POOR-WILL was heard calling.
 
An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen at the Great Swamp Management Area on the  13th.
 
Migrants are filtering into the area, this week's arrivals included:  
BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, OVENBIRD, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, NORTHERN and  
LOUISIANNA WATERTHRUSH,  BLUE-HEADED and WHITE-EYED VIREO, INDIGO BUNTING,
HOUSE
WREN, RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, CHIPPING SPARROW, WILLET and COMMON  TERN.
