Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for April 4th,
updated again on April 11th.
A BOHEMIAN WAXWING was seen with 10 CEDAR WAXWINGS on Block Island on the
30th. The birds were along the road to Clay Head Beach, off Corn Neck Road.
At Bold Point in East Providence, 1 HOARY REDPOLL was last reported on the
2 COMMON REDPOLLS at the thistle feeder.
The RED-HEADED WOODPECKER first discovered in Tiverton in January, is still
being seen. The bird still frequents the feeder adjacent to the state
managed fields along Seapowet Avenue. On the 30th, at the Seapowet Marsh
Wildlife
Preserve area of Tiverton, 14 HORNED LARKS, 2 WILSON'S SNIPE, 5 SNOW GEESE
and 1 GREAT EGRET.
Two PILEATED WOODPECKERS were seen at Arcadia Management Area in Exeter this
week, and 2 BALD EAGELS were soaring over Beach Pond along Route 165.
At Lincoln's Woods State Park, 1 RUSTY BLACKBIRD was found on the 29th.
On the 29th, at Third Beach in Middletown, 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE was reported.
At Mud Pond in South Kingstown 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER was found on the 29th.
On the 4th at Napatree Point, 3 PIPING PLOVERS and 9 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS
were counted.
At Sachuest Point NWR in Middletown, 72 BRANT, 50 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, 1
RED-NECKED GREBE and 6 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen this week.
In Charlestown, at the Nature Conservancy’s Carter Preserve, 3 AMERCAIN
KESTRELS were found on the 3rd.
At White Brook, along Pine Hill Road in Richmond, 2 PALM WARBLERS and 1 PINE
WARBLER were recorded.
Finally, the NORTHERN SHRIKE was observed at the Great Swamp Management area
again on the 30th.
Total species count for the year through March is 171.
