This is a Rare Bird Alert for Southwestern Ohio (Dayton) for
Wednesday, June 10, 2009, sponsored by the Dayton Audubon
Society.
Seen at Brukner Naure Center on June 10th were nesting SUMMER
TANAGER, CEDAR WAXWING, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, LOUISIANA
WATERTHRUSH, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, WILD TURKEY; and GREAT HORNED,
BARRED, and SCREECH OWL.
On June 9th at Huffman Prairie, EASTERN MEADOWLARK, BOBOLINK, COMMON
YELLOWTHROAT, BALTIMORE ORIOLE, and EASTERN KINGBIRD were observed.
On June 9th, 43 species were recorded at Aullwood Gardens including
LEAST, ACADIAN, and GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHER; YELLOW-THROATED and
WARBLING VIREO; TREE, BANK, BARN, and NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW;
EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, NORTHERN PARULA, and BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER.
Seen at Englewood MetroPark main park over the period June 1st to
June 9th were three BALD EAGLES, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, BALTIMORE
ORIOLE, SCARLET TANAGER, CHIMNEY SWIFT; WHITE-EYED and RED-EYED
VIREO: INDIGO BUNTING, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, PRAIRIE WARBLER,
NORTHERN PARULA, EASTERN TOWHEE; TREE and BARN SWALLOW; BARRED OWL
and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT; while at the north park seen were many
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, BALTIMORE and ORCHARD ORIOLE: EASTERN KINGBIRD,
BLUE GROSBEAK, YELLOW WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, SONG SPARROW,
WILLOW FLYCATCHER, and YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT.
A nesting RED-TAILED HAWK was observed at a Beavercreek residence on
June 2nd.
A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, GREAT CRESTED
FLYCATCHER, and PROTHONOTARY WARBLER were seen at Englewood MetroPark
on May 31st.
