Hello, birders this is Greg Scyphers with the Lahontan Audubon Society Bird
Alert covering northern Nevada and adjacent California for Thursday,
October 25, 2001. (All locations are for the Reno area unless otherwise
noted.)

On September 30th, Peter LaTourrette found a Tennessee Warbler at Washoe
Lake State Park, near the boat launch. Despite considerable searching the
next two days, the bird was never refound.

On October 4th, Jim Lytle and Diane Wong found an Acorn Woodpecker in
Wadsworth on private property. This bird was searched for again
repeatedly, but was never relocated.

On October 9th, also on private property in Wadsworth, two Varied Thrushes
were found by Dennis Trousdale.

On October 20th, at Pyramid Lake, near the big canyon area, two Pacific
Loons were viewed. Also in the "Willow's" at Big Canyon, there was a
female Williamson's Sapsucker. This bird apparently represents the first
record for the area.

All of the following reports are from central and southern Nevada.

On October 1st, the WFO field trip group found a Palm Warbler near Bodyfelt
Ranch outside of Tonopah. On the 2nd, they found a Blackpoll Warbler at
Bodyfelt Ranch. At the Circle L Ranch in Dyer, the group relocated the
female Nuttall's Woodpecker. At the "Double Row" trees in Dyer, there was
an American Redstart and a Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

At Miller's Rest Stop, outside of Tonopah, John Brack found a Cape May
Warbler and a White-throated Sparrow on the 3rd. Also on the 3rd John
found a Swamp Sparrow and two more White-throated Sparrows at Sierra Vista
Inn Apartments in Tonopah. On the 4th, he found another White-throated
Sparrow at the apartments.

On October 3rd, there was a report of a Palm Warbler at Corn Creek. Also
at Corn Creek, on the 20th, Donna Crail-Rugotzke found an Ovenbird and an
Acorn Woodpecker. On the 24th, the Acorn Woodpecker was still present at
Corn Creek along with the Ovenbird and a Varied Thrush. On the 25th, at
Corn Creek, there was a Black-throated Blue Warbler.

On the 9th of October, Jon Dunn found a female Common Grackle at Bodyfelt
Ranch near Tonopah. On the 11th, Jon found a female Scarlet Tanager at
Crystal Springs in Lincoln County.

This concludes the bird sightings for this report.
