In San  Juan County: 
MB on June 19 at Morgan Lake had an adult  BROWN PELICAN  
at the  northeast boat ramp.  Also seen at a  cove right of  
the  ramp were the CASPIAN TERN, several CALIFORNIA GULLS, and  
a  FORSTER’S TERN. 
. 
In  Sandoval County: 
TB had 56 CATTLE EGRETS flying over his  home in Corrales on  
June  20. 
DK on June 7 at the north end of the  Corrales Bosque had  
three  CATBIRDS on territories and a MOUNTAIN X BLACK-CAPPED  
CHICKADEE hybrid. 
. 
In Rio  Arriba County: 
JO at a pond north of the road to Heron  Lake on June 20 saw  
an  immature GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a WILSON’S PHALAROPE, and GREEN- 
WINGED  TEALS. 
JB on June 12 had two calling SNIPES 3.5  miles near the NM  
border  near Forest Road 87. 
JP and WW on June 13 north of Tree  Piedras had at mile  
Marker  406 two MOUNTAIN PLOVERS a mile east of US 285 
.  
.In  Taos County: 
JP and WW on June 13 at dawn near Ojo  Sarco had calling  
FLAMMULATED and PYGMY OWLS. 
. 
In  Santa Fe County: 
JP, WW, and HS on June 19 at the Santa Fe  Ski Basin had a  
THREE-TOED WOODPECKE with a MACGILLIVRAY’S WARBLER at Hyde  
Park.  
JB on June 21 on CR 84 (parallel to NM  502) had a  
PHAINOPEPLA Fly over the marsh.  Over the years VIRGINIA RAILS  
and  SORAS have Been there for years. 
JHa reported a GOSHAWK near Shaggy Peak  at Cañada de Los  
Alamos  east of Santa Fe on June 14. 
JB on June 17 had his first RUFOUS  HUMMINGBIRD in Santa Fe. 
JB on June 11 had a WHIP-POOR-WILL  calling in the Black 
Canyon  campground at Hyde State Park at Santa Fe.  It is  
west  of the loop at the far end and has been calling for 
over a  week. 
MR on June 9 reported two BURROWING OWLS  on Airport Road 
near  the Sewage Treatment Plant. 
. 
In San  Miguel County: 
SWa on June 13-14 had a MAGNIFICENT  HUMMINGBIRD at his feeder  
at  Rociada north of Las Vegas at 7300 feet. 
On his Sabinoso BBS CR on June 17 found  GRAY VIREOS between  
the  Canadian River and Sabinoso with a pair on Burro Hill.   
Also  on the hill there was a HEPATIC TANAGER and a SCOTT’S  
ORIOLE.  Numbers of  CASSIN’S SPARROWS were down due to drought. 
CR on June 7 on his Variadero BBS route  had a CACTUS  
WREN  and a BENDIRE’S THRASHER at Garita Creek and NM 104. 
And on Corazon Hill on NM 104 there was a  HEPATIC TANAGER 
and a  SCOTT’S ORIOLE. 
. 
In  Harding County: 
CR on June 17 found good numbers of  CASSIN’S SPARROWS  
near  Roy with a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER on NM 102 east of  
Bueyeros. 
. 
In  Colfax County: 
MB and NP on June 13 had an ARCTIC TERN  on Lake 13 of the  
Maxwell Refuge with two SNOWY PLOVERS and ten  WHITE-RUMPED 
SANDPIPERS.  Later JP  and WW saw the tern, ten BLACK TERNS,  
the  plover and sandpipers, and a male HOODED MERGANSER. 
. 
In  Guadalupe County: 
RM, ranger at Santa Rosa Lake SP.,  reported an immature  
BROWN  PELICAN, present from June 7 to at least June 10, has  
been  near the boat ramp. 
. 
In  Roosevelt County: 
HM on June 11 at Oasis SP north of  Portales reported a  
BRONZED COWBIRD, SAGE and CASSIN’S SPARROWS, and BURROWING  
OWLS. 
There are no problems currently at the  Melrose Trap, not 
even  the rattlers sometimes seen there. 
. 
In  McKinley County: 
DK and JR at the Crownpoint Sewage Ponds  on June 5 had a 
male  WOOD DUCK. 
. 
In  Cibola County; 
DK and JR on the Fence Lake BBS on June 5  recorded a  
PURPLE  MARTIN and six RED CROSSBILLS. 
. 
In  Bernalillo County: 
CR had a singing BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER  in his Albuquerque  
yard  on June 16. 
JJ saw a WESTERN GREBE in the Rio Grande  on June 14 between  
the  Rio Grande Nature Center and the Oxbow. 
At the Tramway Wetlands, west on Tramway  and turn south on  
Fourth  Street for a short distance to a bridge.  Entrance is  
on the  left, G0 saw the four MISSISSIPPI KITES (one immature)  
on  June 4. 
. 
In  Socorro County: 
JP, WW, and LL flushed a LEAST BITTERN on the seasonal road  
at  Bosque del Apache Refuge on June 6.  On June 20 JP and WW 
saw a  MOORHEN at the two-way road west on the Farm Loop.  Later 
there  was a singing BELL’S VIREO.  Refuge  personnel on June 10 
reported an adult LITTLE BLUE HERON at the pond on the east  side 
of the  two-way road. 
At San Marcial JP, LL, and WW on June 6  had three VERMILION 
FLYCATCHERS. 
. 
In  Chaves County: 
At Bitter Lake Refuge BH on June 4 had a  RED PHALAROPE on  
Unit 7  near the west side picnic table.  BW  had a late BLACK  
TERN  on June 17. 
On the refuge count of June 17 JSa  tallied two RING-NECKED  
DUCKS,  two LEAST TERNS, 109 SNOWY PLOVERS. 20 IBIS, 24  
WILSON’S PHALAROPES, seven RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, and four  
BARN  OWLS. 
. 
In  Sierra/Grant County: 
At Emory Pass in the Black Range JP, WW,  and LL on June 6 had 
POORWILLS on both sides of the pass, with two SPOTTED OWLS on  
the  east side. 
At the bridge below Kingston there was a  male MONTEZUMA QUAIL. 
At  Hillsboro there was a male BRONZED COWBIRD. 
And at North Monticello Point at Elephant  Butte Lake there  
Was on  June 6 seven immature CALIFORNIA GULLS.  On June 20 JP and 
WW at  the point saw two MARBLED GODWITS and a WILSON’S PHALAROPE. 
At the Rock Canyon Marina there was a  second year CALIFORNIA  
GULL. 
At the Paseo del Rio Park below the  Elephant Butte Dam AM on  
June 5  had a male BRONZED COWBIRD. 
. 
In  Catron County: 
JO on June 19 had three CLARK’S  NUTCRACKERS on the south fork  
of  Negrito Creek and a pair of VERMILION FLYCATCHERS on the San  
Francisco River near the Tularosa River. 
JH had a male RED-FACED WARBLER at her  ranch west of Datil 
on  June 14. 
BZ in his tour on May 30 at the  Whitewater Canyon Catwalk at  
Glenwood had a pair of HOODED ORIOLES, a BROWN-CRESTED  FLYCATCHER, 
and a  DIPPER with fledged young; 
South of Datil he had a pair of PURPLE  MARTINS. 
. 
In  Grant County: 
RS had  a ZONE-TAILED HAWK on the road to Bill Evans Lake on  
June  15. 
At the DMZ home on June 14 there were  PINE SISKINS. 
BZ on his tour on May 28 reported a  DUSKY-CAPPED FLYCATCHER  
between Cherry Creek and McMillan campgrounds north of Pinos  
Altos  at mile marker 12.  He saw five  HUTTON’S VIREOS on May 28  
north  of Pinos Altos between markers 9 and 11, and two OLIVE  
WARBLERS at marker 9. 
JP, WW, and LL on June 4 had a GREATER  PEWEE and PURPLE MARTIN 
at the  junction on NM 15 and the road up Signal Peak.  On the  
peak  there was a a male MAGNIFICENT HUMMINGBIRD. 
At Roberts Lake BZ on May 28 found PURPLE  MARTINS at the west  
end.  JP, WW, and LL  had two Martins on June 5 there. 
BZ along the highway in the Burro  Mountains south of Silver  
City  on May 29 saw five RED CROSSBILLS.  Going  
up to  Jack’s Peak he had a ZONE-TAILED HAWK.  South of Tyrone  
there  was a PEREGRINE. 
And BZ at the Redrock bridge on May 29  saw a COMMON GROUND- 
DOVE  with a pair of BLACK HAWKS. 
JP, WW, and LL on June 5 had at the farm  north of NM 211 had  
BLACK  HAWKS. 
. 
In  Hidalgo County: 
CW on June 21 had a LUCIFER HUMMINGBIRD in upper Cottonwood  
Canyon.  He says a  fire has been there and in western Clanton. 
CW had a COMMON GROUND-DOVE at Dunagan  Crossing south of  
Animas  on June 21.  On June 19 he had the  BOTTERI’S SPARROWS  
along  the road. 
SOW on May 30 had an adult WHITE-TAILED KITE about 9.5  miles 
south  of Hachita at mile marker 36 on NM 81. 
Guadalupe Canyon’s owners request that no one park at the   
entrance gate where it has been  re-seeded. 
County Hwy.1 south of Animas crosses the Diamond A (Gray)   
Ranch.  Because of  events with thoughtless birders, one must  
NOT  go off the road. 
. 
In  Luna County: 
SOW on May 28 at the Columbus Sewage Pond  just east of town 
had 12  MEXICAN DUCKS and three CATTLE EGRETS. 
The rancher has objected to any birding  around his corral 
near  Hermanas. 
. 
In  Otero County: 
At the Holloman Lakes MT on June 1 saw  the GREEN HERON,  
NEOTROPIC CORMORANT, and five BONAPARTE’S GULLS.  MS and JZ  
on  June 1 found a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, the cormorant, two  
FRANKLIN’S GULLS, and a CANVASBACK.  NS on June 3 had the  
SNOWY  PLOVERS, BLACK TERNS, FRANKLIN’S GULLS, and a LONG- 
BILLED  CURLEW. 
DG reports there has been changes with a kiosk, a boat ramp,  
a  picnic and camping area, and a bird watching area.   
Lagoon  G is open to birding again.  There  is a new sign in 
front  calling it the Raptor Lake Recreation Area. 
. 
In  Eddy County: 
In Slaughter Canyon near Rattlesnake  Springs there are four  
GRAY  VIREOS and a pair of VARIED BUNTINGS.  BW and AF on June 17  
had  the BLACK-CAPPED VIREO again.  JG  and SV found it singing on  
June  19 (photo). 
At Rattlesnake Springs BS on June 13  found a YELLOW-THROATED  
VIREO  at the adjacent Washington Ranch with LUCY’S WARBLER at  
the  Springs.  He recorded a  ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK male on June  
14  with the GRAY HAWK.  JG had the one,  maybe two, singing Yellow-throats 
on June 19 with a singing male BLACK-AND-WHITE  WARBLER  
at the  hackberry grove by the orchard at the Springs.  SW and  
TH on  June 18 had a late WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE.  BW on June 17  
recorded two BRONZED COWBIRDS and the GRAY Hawk. 
At Brantley Lake north of Carlsbad BS on  June 13 saw three  
LEAST  TERNS and two SNOWY PLOVERS. 
SW and TH had a male HARRIER at the Black  River near the  
Springs on June 18. 
BW on June 17 saw over Carlsbad a CHIMNEY  SWIFT and several  
MISSISSIPPI KITES.

The  Randall Davey Audubon Center in Santa Fe on upper Canyon  
Road  has Saturday morning bird walks from 8:30 until 9:30.

The  Rio Grande Nature Center has Saturday and Sunday bird  
walks  at 8:30 in May. 
. 
The  Forest Service has bird walks in the Sandia Mountains on  
Tuesday mornings.  Meet at 8:30 at the Ranger Station in  
Tijeras.
