WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

This is the Western Voice of Audubon for Monday, May
12, 2008

A WESTERN TANAGER was present for a half hour in a
yard in Amherst today.  Also seen in Amherst were a
GREEN HERON, a WILSON’S SNIPE, a SWAINSON’S THRUSH, a
BLACKPOLL WARBLER, a CAPE MAY WARBLER, a BAY-BREASTED
WARBLER, and an ORCHARD ORIOLE.

Seen in Robinson State Park in Agawam were a FISH
CROW, 4 SWAINSON’S THRUSH, 2 CAPE MAY WARBLERS, and a
WILSON’S WARBLER.

Seen in Lenox were 2 COMMON MOORHENS, a VIRGINIA
RAIL, and a SORA. An AMERICAN BITTERN and GREATER and
LESSER YELLOWLEGS were reported in Sheffield, and 5
SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were in Lanesboro.

Noted in the hilltown of Hawley were a NORTHERN
GOSHAWK, 2 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS, 24 WINTER WRENS, a
SWAINSON’S THRUSH, a CAPE MAY and a BLACKPOLL
WARBLER, and 10 EVENING GROSBEAKS.

A COMMON LOON, 14 NORTHERN PARULAS, and a TENNESSEE
WARBLER were at Quabbin Park, a WILSON’S WARBLER was
seen in Belchertown, and a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was at
Turners Falls airport.

In Hadley there were 13 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a
WILSON’S SNIPE, and an ORCHARD ORIOLE, while on Mt.
Holyoke there were WORM-EATING WARBLERS and 5 CERULEAN
WARBLERS.

A BLACKPOLL and a TENNESSEE WARBLER were in
Springfield, a GREATER YELLOWLEGS in Longmeadow, and
a TENNESSEE WARBLER in Westfield.

A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was reported at the Arcadia
sanctuary last Wednesday, has not been relocated.

A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was reported last Tuesday at a
brook one-half mile in from Gate 15 of the Quabbin
Reservoir.

Seen in Southwick were 4 RED-NECKED GREBES, a CLIFF
SWALLOW, a WORM-EATING WARBLER, and 2 ORCHARD ORIOLES.
