WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS
his is the Western Voice of Audubon for Monday February 25, 2008, 2007
At Forest Park in Springfield there were 3 HOODED MERGANSERS, a
GADWALL, a RING-NECKED DUCK, an AMERICAN KESTREL, and a RED-SHOULDERED
HAWK, while an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was photographed in a tree in a
parking lot at 1666 Main Street.
A flock of 65 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was found late in the week in fruit
trees along Main Street in the center of Ashfield,
Today four BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were with a flock of CEDAR WAXWINGS near
an apple orchard one mile north of Route 2 on Route 112 in Shelburne.
A total of 140 CEDAR WAXWINGS in two flocks were seen in Shelburne.
A GOLDEN EAGLE was in the Millers Falls section of Montague, an
ICELAND GULL was in Turners Falls, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE in Northfield.
In the Honeypot section of Hadley on Cemetery Road there were still 2
LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 18 SNOW BUNTINGS, 40 HORNED LARKS, while a BARRED
OWL showed up at a feeder elsewhere in town.
A BARRED OWL was also in Cummington, seven PINE GROSBEAKS in
Williamsburg, and the HOARY REDPOLL returned to a feeder in
Chesterfield along with a CAROLINA WREN.
Noted at South Quabbin were 14 BALD EAGLES, a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, 6
COMMON RAVENS, and 8 PINE GROSBEAKS in a tree near the tower.
In Belchertown there were three HOODED MERGANSERS, 3 RUFFED GROUSE, 2
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, and 5 COMMON GRACKLES.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was present near the nest site on Mt Sugarloaf, and
also in that town were two PILEATED WOODPECKERS and a YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKER.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was also on the Mueller Bridge in Holyoke, a TURKEY
VULTURE was in Amherst, 35 TURKEY VULTURES were in Palmer, and a
NORTHERN SHRIKE, 20 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, and 2 COMMON GRACKLES were
in Longmeadow.
In Southwick there were 3 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, 7 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS,
A COMMON GRACKLE, and 2 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS, and in Pittsfield there
was a BARRED OWL, 2 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, and a BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD.
