EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -

This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, March 17.

Weekend reports from the Newburyport/Plum Island area included 66
NORTHERN PINTAILS, 4 CANVASBACKS, 2 RUDDY DUCKS, 4 BALD
EAGLES, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 2 PIPING PLOVERS, 1 BLACK-
HEADED GULL, 1 SNOWY OWL, and 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, and
seen in Ipswich were 16 BRANT, 12 WOOD DUCKS, 64 GADWALL, 8
AMERICAN WIGEON, 36 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 CANVASBACK,
34 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 63 KILLDEER, 15 WILSON'S SNIPE, 1
NORTHERN SHRIKE, 2 FISH CROWS, 1 MARSH WREN, 1 GRAY
CATBIRD, and 1 FOX SPARROW.

In Gloucester there were 11 ICELAND GULLS, 1 GLAUCOUS GULL, 5
RAZORBILLS, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE, and 2 COMMON RAVENS,
and recent reports from the Great Meadows refuge in Concord have
included 10 WOOD DUCKS, 15 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 18
COMMON GOLDENEYE, 2 BUFFLEHEAD, 58 RING-NECKED
DUCKS, 44 HOODED MERGANSERS, and 2 AMERICAN COOTS.

Seen at Nantucket over the weekend were 1 OSPREY, 1 PIPING PLOVER,
9 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS, 1 BLACK-HEADED GULL, 1
GLAUCOUS GULL, 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, 1 ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLER, and 12 COMMON REDPOLLS, and at Bolton Flats there
were 21 WOOD DUCKS, 52 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 1 BALD EAGLE,
6 KILLDEER, roughly 500 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, and 2000
COMMON GRACKLES.

A report from Peabody included 7 LESSER SCAUP, 225 COMMON
MERGANSERS, 2 RUDDY DUCKS, and 10 AMERICAN COOTS, and
miscellaneous reports from the weekend included a SNOW GOOSE in
Newbury, a CANVASBACK and a NORTHERN SHRIKE at the Cherry
Hill Reservoir in West Newbury, a BARRED OWL at the Ipswich River
sanctuary in Topsfield, a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE at
Linwood Pond in Northbridge, 18 EVENING GROSBEAKS in Barre,
a BALD EAGLE and 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS in Groton, an ICELAND
GULL in Westminster, 6 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in Fitchburg, a TREE
SWALLOW, a FOX SPARROW, and 5 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS in
Wayland, 2 PINE GROSBEAKS in Lincoln, 2 CANVASBACKS at Clay
Pit Pond in Belmont, a BROWN THRASHER and a FOX SPARROW
in Nahant, 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS and a LESSER YELLOWLEGS
in Quincy, a BOHEMIAN WAXWING in Foxboro, at least 3 OSPREYS
on territory along the Westport River in Westport, and 3 BLACK
VULTURES elsewhere in Westport.
