EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -
This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, March 10.
The SLATY-BACKED GULL in Gloucester was seen again yesterday at the
Jodrey state fish pier, and seen elsewhere in Gloucester were 1
NORTHERN
GOSHAWK, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, 1 MERLIN, 21 ICELAND GULLS,
and 3 GLAUCOUS GULLS.
Weekend reports from the Newburyport/Plum Island area included 34
GADWALL, 12 AMERICAN WIGEON, 25 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 7
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 CANVASBACK, 12 BALD EAGLES, 4
NORTHERN HARRIERS, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, 2 AMERICAN
WOODCOCKS, 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, 1 SNOWY OWL, 1 NORTHERN
SHRIKE, 27 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, and 35 COMMON GRACKLES.
Seen at Bolton Flats were 1 SNOW GOOSE, 24 RING-NECKED DUCKS,
200 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, and 330 COMMON GRACKLES,
and a report from Millbury included 1 KILLDEER, 1 AMERICAN
WOODCOCK, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, 5 NORTHERN
FLICKERS, 1 EASTERN PHOEBE, 2 COMMON RAVENS, 1 PINE
WARBLER, 1 LARK SPARROW, 2 FOX SPARROWS, 1 WHITE-
CROWNED SPARROW, roughly 500 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS,
roughly 300 COMMON GRACKLES, 50 COMMON REDPOLLS, and
1 HOARY REDPOLL.
In Concord there were 4 WOOD DUCKS, 63 GREEN-WINGED TEAL,
10 AMERICAN WIGEON, 17 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 90 RING-
NECKED DUCKS, AND 4 KILLDEER, and at the Daniel Webster
sanctuary in Marshfield there were 5 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 1
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 14 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS, 1 SHORT-
EARED OWL, and 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE.
Weekend reports from Nantucket included 4 AMERICAN OYSTER-
CATCHERS, 2 NORTHERN SHRIKES, 25 RUDDY TURNSTONES,
35 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, 21 ICELAND GULLS, and
1 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, and miscellaneous reports
included 3 COMMON MURRES and 45 RAZORBILLS at Andrew's
Point in Rockport, a COMMON RAVEN at the Ipswich River sanctuary
in Topsfield, 50 COMMON REDPOLLS in Burlington, 5 PINE
GROSBEAKS in Lincoln, 100 RING-NECKED DUCKS in Sudbury,
an EASTERN PHOEBE at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge,
a NORTHERN GOSHAWK in Jamaica Plain, a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE
and a SNOWY OWL in South Boston, a TREE SWALLOW at the Stony
Brook sanctuary in Norfolk, 73 GREEN-WINGED TEAL and 5
AMERICAN WIGEON at the Cumberland Farm fields in Middleboro,
an AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER in Westport, and single FOX
SPARROWS in Jamaica Plain, Cambridge, Natick, and Walpole.
