This is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society's rare bird report being recorded
on Friday, May 9 at 2:30 p.m. If you have a rare bird sighting to report,
call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. For those of you who are getting the
transcript on the Internet, the rare bird alert number for Santa Barbara is
(805) 964-8240.
Along Farren Road in west Goleta, a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was singing on
Monday. On the 3rd, a COMMON GROUND-DOVE was calling from the fence a few
hundred yards north of the reservoir.
A SNOW GOOSE continued in Goleta Slough as seen from the UCSB bluffs on the
north side of the campus on Tuesday.
Two WANDERING TATTLERS were on the Santa Barbara Harbor breakwater on
Monday.
There are still two ROSS'S GEESE in the pond at the Rancho Goleta mobile
home park at the end of Ward Drive in Goleta.
Highlights from Cachuma Lake last week included an adult BALD EAGLE.
In the North County, PURPLE MARTINS have returned to the Alisal Ranch area
of Solvang, with a dozen of the birds seen as early as March 28.
On Wednesday, a PRAIRIE FALCON was seen along Highway 246 near where
Tularosa intersects with the highway.
At Waller Park in Santa Maria, a SNOW GOOSE, a ROSS'S GOOSE and the CACKLING
GOOSE were still in the front pond on the April 14th. Note also that
LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHES breed in the park.
That is all the bird news for now, but, again, if you have a rare sighting
to report, call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. Good birding in Santa Barbara
County.
