This is the Upper Cook Inlet (UCI) bird report updated on Sunday,
October 20th, sponsored by the Anchorage Audubon Society. To skip the
report and leave a message press the # key now.

Since early October, most local reports have pertained to waterfowl, the
last group of regular birds to depart the region in the fall. However,
there were also a few interesting song birds reported, as should be
expected at least until winter arrives - so take advantage of this
extended fall and keep looking.

Noteworthy bird sightings in the UCI since early October included a
flock of over 50 European Starlings near Dowling and Lake Otis Parkway
on the 4th - one of the highest single flock counts for Anchorage; a
Hermit Thrush in the Chugiak area on the 5th; two female Surf Scoters
and one female Black Scoter on Westchester Lagoon on the 6th; a single
Common Loon, five Red-necked Grebes, seven Trumpeter Swans, 70
Ring-necked Ducks, five White-winged Scoters and several Bufflehead all
on Elmendorf Air Force Base area lakes on the 14th; and over 20
Bufflehead at Westchester Lagoon and a juvenile Thayer's Gull near the
mouth of Ship Creek on the 20th.

You may now leave your report after the tone; please include the date
and place of observation, as well as your name and telephone number.
Reports of any loons, grebes, shorebirds, thrushes and/or warblers would
be of appreciated.
