Take a trip with The Virtual Birder® and go hawk watching at two of the most popular hawk watches in North America, Hawk Mountain and Cape May. There are 31 sightings of 15 species of hawks (diurnal raptors) to identify. In addition there are 10 other non-raptors to identify. Warning: Quite a few of the identifications are quite difficult due to the similarity of hawks and some marginal images. Don't take it too seriously, you can always get some points by entering "Accipiter" or "Falcon". If you disagree with an identification, send feedback to OnLoc@greatblue.com giving the Location and describing the bird and why you disagree. You'll find the following at the bottom of this page: Acknowledgments and Brief Tour Directions Good Luck and Good Birding! |
The Virtual Birder would like to thank Shawn Carey of Braintree, Massachusetts, Sidney Bahrt of Pembroke, Maine, and Arthur Morris / Birds As Art for use of their hawk photos. Thanks also go to Simon Perkins of Massachusetts Audubon and Paul Roberts of Eastern Massachusetts Hawk Watch for their invaluable assistance in the process of assembling this tour.
