My feederes are strangely inactive this winter - only a pair of titmice coming with half dozen or so chickadees and only an occassion fly in bluejay. Lots of reports from friends of bluebird sitings in the area. Ruth

On Sunday, in addition to the SNOWY OWL, there were 50 NORTHERN PINTAILS and 6 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS. The SNOWY OWL has been reported as recently as the 23rd. TUNDRA SWANS have been seen all week in the vicinity off Porter=B9s Point in Colchester. On Saturday, the 19th, there were 13 Bald Eagles in the neighborhood of Long Point. A SURF SCOTER and 500 GREATER SCAUP were seen at the Crown Poin= t Bridge. Four COMMON LOONS, 2 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and 2 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were at Tri-Town Water plant on the lake in Addison. Also on Saturday, the Rutland County Audubon annual =B3Winter Regular and Rarities=B2 trip to Dead Creek and the lake north to Shelburne Bay produced the following highlights: 4 COMMON LOONS, 4 HORNED GREBES, 9 HOODED MERGANSERS, a BUFFLEHEAD, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 2 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 30 WILD TURKEYS, 5 BALD EAGLES, 7 ROUGH-LEGS and 7 RED-TAILS plus 1 AMERICAN KESTREL. 60 HORNED LARKS were seen along Gage Road in Addison. Two BARROW=B9S GOLDENEYES were found at Shelburne Bay on the 20th. A mid-winter TURKEY VULTURE was spotted over Brandon also on the 20th. A RED-THROATED LOON was seen at Potash Bay in Panton on the 20th. Two RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were also there. A flock of about 300 GREATER SCAUP was at the Crown Point Bridge and 9 BALD EAGLES were counted At Long Point in Ferrisburgh. Two BONAPARTE=B9S GULLS continued to linger in Town Farm Bay near the Ferrisburgh =AD Charlotte town line. The numbers of COMMON MERGANSER= S and COMMON GOLDENEYES on the lake between Crown Point and Shelburne Bay was described as being =B3remarkable.=B2 A two-week census of wintering BALD EAGLES along the Connecticut River from McIndoe Falls to Vernon produced 11 adults and 7 immatures, mostly in the vicinity of the dams. Other reports include several large COMMON REDPOLL flocks, 2 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS in Panton and 7 at McCuen Slang just south of the Crown Point Bridge, a wintering WHITE-THROATED SPARROW in Colchester, a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD in South Burlington, a NORTHERN FLICKER at VINS in Woodstock, and 50 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS at the north end of Shelburne Pond.
