Bob,
I would try a Google search (google.com) and select an "Image" search. =
Just punch in the species you want and you will get a bunch of images. =
Keep in mind, many will be copywrited, but usually not too difficult to =
get permission for use.

Subject: owl sketches and a bird quiz
From: BoB LeSuer <rlesuer(AT)zoo.uvm.edu>

Hi all,
First, I am looking for a sketch of an owl (preferably barred or great
grey "ish") that would be a suitable model for use in making some custom
jewelry. Ideally it would be something that could be done on an earring
size but a small pin/brooch is a possibility as well. Any suggestions
would be welcome.

Coming out to Williston RD from 116 yesterday I noticed a raptor and
crow doing a dance above the intersection. The Crow was chasing the
SHARP SHINNED HAWK this way and that only to have the sharpie duck a
shoulder and then start pursuing the crow. That lasted only moments
before the crow was again the pursuer leading the sharpie to dive
headlong into a thick bunch of bushes to which the crow said see ya and
flew off. I tried finding the bird(thinking it was perched or still in
the bushes) and couldn't see it so I went to fill up(my tank was near
empty) at the Mobil on the corner there. As I was filling up I picked
out the bird perched above the adjacent parking lot. I topped off my
tank and drove over to look and had the sharpie dodge over my hood and
into another tree right next to me. A great bird!! I'm wondering if this
is the same sharpie that regularly patrols my nieghborhood down 116.
I have a qustion about mobbing. Now it doesn't seem like crows would be
doing any nesting now yet mobbing still happens (I recently saw a flock
of crows mobbing a redtail). Is it just that they will mob a raptor at
any time of year? I had always assumed it was a precautionary measure
taken when nesting. Thanks for any input.
Happy Birding

Silas, I have observed mobbing behavior at all times of the year, often by
groups of young crows, little thugs that they are. I am certainly no expert
on this, but while I think it is a precautionary signal for other birds, I
am convinced the crows frequently do it for entertainment. I swear I've
seen flocks of crows flying around until they find something to mob! I
think you just had a bored young crow with nothing to do.
