[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Bluebird 1/5 From: "Holly Hungerford" <hhungerford(AT)vpt.org> Date: 6 Jan 2002 4:46pm I noticed a bluebird in the sumac along Route 7 just south of Ferrisburgh on Saturday in the late morning. Had 6 common redpoll at my feeder in Charlotte this morning (Sunday) as well as a goodly number of dueling goldfinches (everyone seemed to want the same perch on the feeder -- it was quite a show). Also had a visit from a tufted titmouse, an infrequent visitor at our house, and a call from my neighbor across the back field saying she had a flock of 8 wild turkeys in her yard. Holly F. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Local birds From: Birdermer(AT)aol.com Date: 6 Jan 2002 10:59pm On my walk yesterday I saw a Shrike about 1/4 mile from our house. Interesting to see, but I hope he stays there for the birds at the feeders' sake. Also saw our neighborhood Red Tail. Have seen a small flock of Robins hanging around as well as some Waxwings. A group of about 50 Redpolls in the field across from us. The turkeys come daily. Sometimes they hang around all day waiting for a second handout. The usual group is around 15. Another group comes around once in a while. The other day it was like "West Side Story." One group coming from the left, one group coming from the right, chests pushed out to appear larger than they are ... ready to rumble! We find occasional feathers floating around, but no dead birds. We have a nice group of 10 or so Cardinals coming to the feeders as well as an unknown number of Chickadees (they fly too fast), a pair of White breasted Nuthatches, Red breasted nuthatches, Blue Jays, Mourning Doves, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, Crows, Tufted Titmice, Red and Gray Squirrels and occasionally an Opossum comes at night. Merrie
