Subject: [birders] This Morning's Yardbirds "Warren"
From: Fred Kaluza <fkaluza(AT)yahoo.com>
Date: 26 Apr 2008 6:08am
A solitary Sandpiper and a pair (M+F)Purple Finches
were here this morning. Still no White-Crowns
although the Oriole appears to be reclaiming familiar
territory including the yard here which will be a
corner point for several Orioles since the Jelly
Feeder is such a strong attractant.

Subject: [birders] Dearborn: Summer Tanager - yes; Whippoorwill
From: Julie Craves <jcraves(AT)umd.umich.edu>
Date: 26 Apr 2008 10:52am
A number of new migrant species arrived today, although not in any big
numbers. The day began at 3:30 AM with a Whippoorwill in east Dearborn.
The female Summer Tanager was seen again today near the north end of the
lake, in with a flock that included the first Red-eyed Vireo, Nashville
Warbler, and Black-throated Green Warbler. Four Purple Finches were also
with them, and the only sizable group of White-throated Sparrows, which
seem to have thinned out. Two Chestnut-sided Warblers (ties the early
date) and a Great Crested Flycatcher were also new today. Other warblers
included Yellow-rumped, Palm, and Black-and-white.

We usually get our fist orphan baby killdeer of the year just before
the end of April. I order food for them to come before the first
one, but it's often a squeaker. Maybe they will be a little later
because of the cold spring, but I'm sure they are sitting on eggs now
and soon there will be adorable baby killdeer.

Saw a pair of kildeer in the parking lot of the Rock Financial Showcase
last Sunday. One just ran and laid down on the cement after most of the
cars were gone. They were near the "creek", which looks more like a
cesspool, unfortunately. I hate to see birds resort to living in these
conditions. But they looked healthy. I love to watch them run.

Subject: [birders] Upper Saginaw Bay Birds
From: pavlik(AT)comcast.net
Date: 26 Apr 2008 11:50pm
----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION----
Birders,
Today I birded the upper Saginaw Bay area including Tawas, Wigwam Bay and
Nayanquing Pt. I ran the table on swallows including Purple Martin. Shorebirds
were all but absent. A few warblers (6) and a few other decent finds.
Tawas Point State Park
E. Kingbird (1)
Rose-breasted Grosbeak (1)
Pine Warbler (2)
Palm Warbler (1)
Yellow Warbler (3)
Yellow-rumped (~40)
C. Yellowthroat (1)
Black-and-White Warbler (3)
Blue-headed Vireo (1)
Merlin (1)
Chimney Swift (1)
Bald Eagle (4)
Purple Finch (2)
Purple Martin (1) in town
I then went to Wigwam Bay in Arenac County:
Yellow Warblers (10)
Green Heron (1)
Lapland Longspur (4) fly-by
Cliff Swallow (4)
Chimney Swift (1)
Nayanquing Pt. in Bay County
Lesser Yellowlegs (2)
Bank Swallow (1)
Yellow-headed Blackbird (1)
Wigwam Bay is quite the hidden gem. This is not the area shown in Delorme just
north of Nayanquing but rather south and a little west of Au Gres off Stover Rd.
GPS(44.004577,-83.801179) I always seem to do well here.
Take Care,
Tom Pavlik
