[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [PABIRDS] Warbler ID From: Yellowlegs <yellowlegs(AT)WORLDNET.ATT.NET> Date: 2 Oct 2004 2:59pm I photo'd this Yellow-rumped warbler at Codorus SP on Friday. I am trying to ID which sub-species of the YR it is for sure. I know the Audubon's is a western sub-species but it does seem to have some field marks similar to Audubon's. I would welcome any feedback here or directly to me. http://www.pbase.com/rcm1840/inbox_3 Thanks, Bob Bob Moul (yellowlegs(AT)worldnet.att.net) Adams County Pennsylvania Webpage: www.pbase.com/rcm1840/avian_friends www.pbase.com/rcm1840/butterflies www.pbase.com/rcm1840/fav_pix Outgoing mail scanned by Norton
[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [PABIRDS] Imm Connecticut / Mourning Warbler IDing help? From: Dave Kruel <accip(AT)INFIONLINE.NET> Date: 2 Oct 2004 5:10pm Hi All, A couple times over the past few years, I have come across immature Conn/Mourning Warblers, and could not make an ID on the birds.....even with pretty good looks. I know that some photos show for an imm Mourning where the yellow goes all the way from the underside and up covering most of the chest and up to the chin....as I guess would be for a 'typical' looking one. And most Conn photos show a fair hood effect....but I'm not sure what the range of the hood appearance can be for both species. I was wondering if anyone would have some suggestions on IDing with respect to the hood and eyering...and also can behavior in anyway, be a good cue as to identification for one over the other. What would be the best marks to look for in trying to discern a imm 'Conn-looking' Mourning from a 'Mourning-looking' Conn Warbler? Thanks very much. Dave Kruel Pottsville

[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [PABIRDS] Donegal Lake Shorebirds - Westmoreland Co 10-2-04 From: Walter Shaffer <wdshaffer(AT)ICUBED.COM> Date: 2 Oct 2004 11:44pm Hi, Today, I visited Donegal Lake from 1pm until 4pm. I hoped something would come in with the front. Nothing did! The same birds seem to have been there for about a week with the exception of the Willets reported by Len Hess. The birds that are there are certainly feeding actively. I suspect they are storing up for future migration. New mudflats continue to be exposed as the water level falls and I suspect the food supply must be good since this lake has not been lowered for a few years to the best of my knowledge. In any event, here are the findings for today: Least Sandpiper - 2 -juv Pectoral Sandpiper - 1 - juv Solitary Sandpiper - 3 Lesser Yellowlegs - 2 - juv Dunlin - 1 juv Semipalm. Plover - 1 Am. Pipit -1 Green Heron - 1 Blue Heron - 3 I will be unable to visit Donegal Lake next week. I hope someone will be able to check on it. Regards, Walt Shaffer Allegh Co Pittsburgh, Pa
