The Birdbox is brought to you by the Monterey Peninsula Audubon Society and can be reached at 831 626-6605. Birds in this report: Brant Osprey Merlin Snow Goose Greater White-fronted Goose Long-tailed Duck Harlequin Duck Moss Landing Area: Today there was a BRANT at the Elkhorn Slough Wildlife Area in with some Canada Geese out towards the Caspian Tern colony. There was also an OSPREY and a MERLIN in the area. A the Salinas River mouth, there was one SNOW GOOSE in with the Gull flock on the sandbar. At the salt ponds, two SNOW GEESE continue to be seen with a flock of Canada Geese back towards Elkhorn Ranch. Panning back towards Highway One, there were 7 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE. At Jetty Road, four BRANT were on the north side of the road. [Rick Fournier] Monterey: Today, the continuing male LONG-TAILED DUCK was about 1/4 mile north of the Monterey Beach Hotel. [Blake Matheson] A male HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen sitting on a buoy in the outer harbor between Fisherman's Wharf and the breakwater. It provided nice views from the recreation trail during the middle of the day. [Alan Baldridge] The Monterey Peninsula Audubon Society has a web site at http://montereyaudubon.org/ . The site has announcements about field trips and meetings and other great info for birders. another non-profit site with much information about local birding is Don Roberson's "Creagrus" web site at http://montereybay.com/creagrus Go to his "Monterey County" page for a portal to local birding sites, or try the "links" page to reach various pelagic boat trip operators and providers of local birding services on Elkhorn Slough and elsewhere.
