[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Santa Cruz birds From: Erika Arul <erikala(AT)earthlink.net> Date: 10 Jan 2002 4:57pm Hello birders. A TENNESSEE WARBLER was seen yesterday (1/9) in the area between Towne, Chrystal, and Rincon streets in central Santa Cruz. This was the third time it was seen in the past five days. This is the same location where the BLACK THROATED BLUE WARBLER is still being seen (first seen 11/28/01). There was also a pure YELLOW SHAFTED FLICKER in the area (1/9). On UCSC campus today, at College Eight in front of the "West Field House" gym there was a tan morph WHITE THROATED SPARROW feeding with a small flock in the little grass patch next to the two picnic tables. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: 2nd hand Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Evening Grosbeaks, etc From: DSUDDJIAN(AT)aol.com Date: 10 Jan 2002 10:00pm ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- These phone reports were received of birds seen today (1/10): Gerry Thomas gave a nice description of a female YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER seen along the San Lorenzo River at the Rincon Trail. It was seen along the west side of the river where the Rincon trail meets the Diversion Dam trail going off to the left. Rincon Trail (aka Rincon Fire Road) is accessed off Hwy 9 out of Santa Cruz after Hwy 9 crosses the RR tracks. A report from Chris Emmons from Rancho Del Oso included 7 EVENING GROSBEAKS in the riparian of Waddell Creek at "Swing Hill" on the Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail and two PILEATED WOODPECKERS heard near the trail about 3 miles in from Hwy 1. A HERMIT WARBLER was along the trail in the pines a short ways past the ranger station and corral area.
