Subject: Birding software question

Dear Birders,
After compiling my property bird list for 2000 (103 species), I =
realize that I need a much better system of keeping data. I'm using a =
week-at-a-glance type desk calendar now which is a big improvement over =
my random notes that I used to take. But I'd like an easier way to =
document the first dates of arrival and departure of migrants as well as =
overall numbers on birds for the year. I've heard AviSys mentioned. =
Will it help me? Your comments are appreciated. You may e-mail me at =
my personal address below since I don't know how many people on the list =
are interested in this topic. Thanks. Happy birding in 2001!

Subject: White-crowned Sparrow
From: Tom & Eloise Sylvest <tomande(AT)STARGAZER.NET>
Date: 14 Jan 2001 6:05pm
A White-crowned Sparrow, immature, has apparently has decided to make its
winter home with the White-throated sparrows at our Gramercy, LA backyard
feeders. It seems to enjoy the supply of white millet.
It is here today after Stacy Peterson and Mike Nelson found it a week ago.

Subject: Lake Charles area sparrows
From: Winston Caillouet <lincwinc(AT)MSN.COM>
Date: 14 Jan 2001 6:15pm
Yesterday, I birded a little east of town and ran across a fallow field on
Wardline Road holding a lot of sparrows. I walked the road-side brush and
then a while in the field when returning to my truck. I observed ten
different species, including two Clay-colored. The others were Song(12),
Swamp(25), Field(9), Vesper(5), Savannah(250), White-throated(3),
White-crowned(6), Lincoln's(8), and LeConte's10).
Just before getting in my truck to leave, six Sandhill Cranes flew by. They
were flying southeasterly.
A few miles farther north on Farm Road I observed two Horned Larks.
Today, I located two other spots holding quite a few LeConte's. I found 9
in a fifteen minute walk near the new ice skating rink and another 6 about a
mile from there on East Prien Lake Road.
I birded some wooded areas both days but were unsuccessful finding any Fox
Sparrows.

Subject: Hummer Banding in Baton Rouge
From: "R. Martin Guidry" <guidryrm(AT)home.com>
Date: 14 Jan 2001 7:05pm
This morning Nancy Newfield and her banding crew of Carol Foil, Laurie
Binford, Stacy Peterson, Linda Billiot and Steve of UNO arrived at our
home to band the hummingbirds using our feeders. Joining Ann and I in
observing the banding were Elaine and Jessica Kilgore. Nancy stayed
from 7:15 am until 10:00 am at our home, then the group moved to another
location on Goodwood Ave. I only know the results of the banding at our house.
Hummers banded were:
1 Calliope
1 Black-chinned
6 Rufous (one of which had a been previously banded)
Seen, but not caught during the banding activities were:
1 Broad-tailed
1 Ruby-throated
A second Black-chinned
2 other Rufous
Tom, except for the lone Rufous reported earlier, essentially all of
this influx of birds arrived about December 15th.
Thanks,
Marty and Ann Guidry
