Sorry for a delayed reply, but I just now saw your message. There's a place in
Roswell called All Creatures Animal Hosp.; they have permits & work with the DNR
doing wildlife rehab. Their # is (770) 393-3400, website is
http://www.allcreaturesanimalhospital.com/
This is where I've taken several injured wild animals/birds, & they won't charge
any vet fees (although they will certainly accept donations for their work with
wildlife).
Hope this helps!

My apologies for 2 things: Incorrectly saying the vet clinic was in Roswell (I
checked again & it's in Dunwoody), & forgetting to sign properly (that's what
happens when doing a "reply all")!

Yesterday I heard a black throated green warbler as I was walking
through
the grown up area behind my office during lunch. That was the first
warbler I learned when I took up birding last spring, so I am excited
to hear my first one of the season. If you can't learn that song then
you are acoustically challenged. Now I am all fired up to go birding.

If your message comes across with question marks after every sentence you are
not sending your message in PLAIN TEXT.
You may not see it in your mailer, but you can always check your messages at
http://www.birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/GABO.html
to be sure.
A note from Jason:
GABO'ers -
And for any of you who are using AOL email, I just found that you must
send mesages to this listserv in PLAIN TEXT format (as opposed to RICH
TEXT format) in order to have it formatted correctly (thanks for the
hint Steve). To do this, depending on which version of AOL mail you
have, look for a message that says something like "switch to plain text
editor" near the subject line (possibly over to the right in blue
letters) when you are composing a message. If you see the option
"switch to rich text editor" then you are already in plain text mode
and are good to go. Of course, this means you can't use any of the
cute smiley faces that are only available in rich text format. Yes,
AOL is lame and basically just sucks.

This is the oddest assortment of birds I've ever posted! On 4-9 a male
PURPLE FINCH was in the backyard - still hanging around. Yesterday a
first-of-the-year RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD was checking out its feeder. Then
this
morning my husband called to say that he saw an EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE here in
Cherokee Co. at Arnold Mill and Barnes Roads. This is the first one either of
us has spotted up here.
I attempted to photograph the 5 baby CAROLINA WRENS in our Christmas wreath
yesterday and they were gone. Their momma did good.
Critters: first Pearl Crescent butterfly, American Toads were humming
loudly last night, and the groundhogs are digging holes closer & closer to our
yard!

What a treat to see my FOTS Indigo Bunting after a hard afternoon of workin=

Date: 11 Apr 2008 5:17pm
We did our first Spring Bird Tour this morning (Friday the 11th). Besides the
usual common birds (Cardinals, Bluejays, Mockingbirds, etc), the most noteworthy
was a first of the year Blue Grosbeak. He was perched at the top on a tree
singing away. Also, Palm Warblers, Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers, White-Throated
Sparrows, Song Sparrows, a really beautiful Swamp Sparrow that allowed us an
unusually long look. Near the lake, we had Rough-Winged Swallows, and on the
wetland, Rough-Winged and Barn Swallows. Lots of Black Vultures, and a small
flock of Blackbirds that were just too far away for me to identify. Our next
bird walk will be Thursday April 17th. All takers welcome.

Date: 11 Apr 2008 5:23pm
I know that maybe to some of you it might not be a big deal but I thought I
would share with you that I saw a pair of Blue Jays in my big Dogwood Tree
in my back yard. I used to see a whole lot more of them when I was a child
and how I loved them. They were actually my favorite bird with their
beautiful markings and their personalities that made me smile as I loved
watching them. I know that there has been a decline for Blue Jays because I
heard there is a decline in Oak Trees. The 2 Blue Jays were gathering
nesting material (tiny branches it looked like). It looks like the pair is
nesting in our neighbors' yard close to our fence. It really made me smile
to think there would soon be those adorable baby Blue Jays that I used to
love seeing so much. It also reminded me of Mama (a very pleasant memory)
because she loved them too. She used to put bread out and other goodies all
the time in our back yard for them. Any way I hope I didn't bore you!
God bless and happy birding,

Subject: Audubon's warbler at Johnson Ferry Unit
From: Leslie Curran <tlcurran(AT)COMCAST.NET>
Date: 11 Apr 2008 9:03pm
This morning my sister Jane Shero and I went birding at the Johnson Ferry Unit
and were lucky to find a Yellow-rump warbler Audubon's race in an oak tree that
was near the entrance at the rivers edge. We were both surprised to see it. We
could clearly see the yellow throat on this male.
We also saw a Prothonotary warbler further down the trail and several
Red-headed woodpeckers.

Subject: Re: Blue Jays

When I grew up in an avian depressed Chicago suburb, it was always really
special to see a Blue Jay. My mom would call all us kids to come to the window
and see them. I would look at them with an old pair of Sears Binoculars.
Thanks for reminding us how empty of a world would it be with out Blue Jays.
Thanks,

God bless and happy birding,
Marla Mitchell

This evening saw my first Green Heron of the spring, and my first Eastern
Kingbird. Both were near the Alexander Lake parking lot. Earlier today, saw
first Blue Grosbeak near the Power of Flight Wetland area.

Subject: Scissor-Tail in Henry Cty... Not Yet
From: James Brooks <jrbamc(AT)JUNO.COM>

I was able to make a quick stop at the King's Mill Rd site between McDonough
and Locust Grove on State Hwy 42 tonight at 7:30, did not see the Scissor-
tailed Flycatcher on or near the tower where it has been seen for the past
few years. Maybe it will show up again, soon.
In the yard, a FOTS Green Heron a couple of days ago, the every-other day
Double-crested Cormorants in the lakes, still several Yellow-rumped Warblers.
