Weather: Temps fairly comfy, except perhaps when the damp, chilly winds blew in mid-day. However, even the chilly winds kept the Black Flies down, so that was good! Nice clouds all day. Raptor Observations: Last counted Bird for 2008 Bradury Mountain Hawkwatch, was a Sharp-shinned Hawk. 1 more Merlin - excellent! 20 Broad-winged Hawks on the final day; including several close looks at immies. But Raptor highlight of the day for me was a Peregrine Falcon, motoring through. We picked up this Bird while trying to age a Bald Eagle. The Eagle turned out to be an adult. Prior to the Peregrine coming into the picture, a Broad-winged Hawk dive-bombed the Eagle. Nice spot on the Eagle and Broadie, Brendan! Non-raptor Observations: Fantastic look at an adult male Blackburnian Warbler. More singing from the Hermit Thrush - awesome! Well, the 2008 Spring Hawkwatch at Bradury Summit, is over. The Count was a resounding success, in my opinion. The following acknowledgements will be fairly general in content. I tried to express gratitude on a personal level throughout the Season. Nonetheless, the following thanks are totally heartfelt... First, i want to thank all of the Volunteer Observers. You'all are awesome! An extra thanks to the folks whom came up in less-than-perfect weather(to say the least!) A Hawkwatch is only as strong as it's Volunteers... Thanks to all the awesome folks that gave me rides, to and from the Park. Thanks to all the Friends that i made... Thanks to everyone that fed me... Thanks to all those that shared a beer or glass of wine(or two) with me... Thanks to all that brought me coffee... Thanks to my sponsors, whom provided me with a paycheck, and a place to live... Thanks to the excellent staff at Bradbury Mountain State Park... Thanks to Libby, whose strength and love kept me warm on some pretty cold days... Last but never least; thanks to Mother Nature, Bradbury Mountain, and the awesome Birds that keep us looking up... Keep your eyes to the skies, Fine Folks - i will miss you greatly... Predictions: Dane will not be on Bradbury Summit, on 5/16/08. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jeannette Lovitch (wildbirdcenter(AT)yarmouthbirds.com) BIRDHAWK is sponsored by HMANA.
