Weather:
Who knew southerly winds (with a thermometer reading of 20C)could be so
cold? Cloudy skies with a dropping barometric pressure until the rain
ended the watch.
Raptor Observations:
A gratifying flight of sharpies and ospreys. Over 100 broadwings. Two of
the 18 ospreys appeared to be migrating together. The brisk southerly wind
focused the migrants near the lake at Site 1, where the entire watch was
kept.
Non-raptor Observations:
A great egret.
Mike Ceci, Jill and Berk Adams, Eileen and Bill Jowett, Carol Dietz and
Jann Randell helped with the count.
Predictions:
Tommorow is the last day of the 2008 Ripley Hawk Watch season. We expect
chilly northerly breezes and mostly sunny skies; probably a modest flight,
at best, after today's good push.

15 in total. Great spotting on a tough day, Tom D. Also want to thank
Barbara(hope i spelled that correctly!), Ron, John, and Jonas for visiting.
Weather:
Warm temps all day. Started day with light NNE winds; finished with strong
S winds. Virtually zero help from the clouds.
Raptor Observations:
One more Merlin; cannot get enough of this dashing Falcon!
Two more immie Bald Eagles, including a point-blank look at a youngster
still showing mostly juvenile plumage.
Non-raptor Observations:
Blackburnian Warbler male onsite - awesome!
Also, a Hermit Thrush singing. This song to me is not only musical, but
magical. I cannot help but feel that one of my favorite flautists - Eric
Dolphy - must have been inspired by the Hermit Thrush's song. Simply
beautiful...
With the Season winding down, i want to take this opportunity to talk a
little about the discovery of Bradbury Summit, as a viable Spring Hawkwatch
Site. About 10 years or so ago, Dan Nickerson(and Friends), started looking
for Hawks at the Summit in the Fall. A year or two later, Lionel Quirion
started checking out Bradbury Summit in the Spring on different dates.
Eventually, Lionel decided that the last 2 weeks in April were the best bet
for large movements of migrating Raptors. For 7 or 8 years, Lionel
performed a 2-week Hawkwatch during those 2 weeks. This he did not only
without financial compensation, but at his own expense. That, my Friends,
is dedication! So Lionel, Dan, and all other early Bradbury Hawkwatchers;
thank you, thank you, thank you! You'all discovered an awesome spot...
Predictions:
I predict that tomorrow is the final day of the 2008 Season.
