[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Point Pelee From: "David M. Gascoigne" <bateleur27(AT)hotmail.com> Date: 13 May 2008 2:53am We spent last weekend at Point Pelee and I have completed a trip report if anyone would like a copy. I will post it to my blog later when we assemble some suitable pictures to go along with it. In the meantime, feel free to request it and I will email a copy to you in PDF format. David M. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: RFI - Removing plates from guide From: Bkbirdr(AT)aol.com Date: 13 May 2008 5:33am I use a much simpler "do-it-yourself" method than most of those described. No Kinko's necessary--and no cost, other than buying a second copy of the guide (I always do this to a 2nd copy, but that's optional.) If the book is perfect bound (i.e., glued and not stiched) as most of these large guides are, I simply take a mat cutting knife and slice directly through the spine, isolating the plate section. I leave the covers attached to the text section and retape that back together with heavy duty packing tape. For covers on the plate section, I take heavy-duty, colored file folders and cut a new cover to size; then tape the back of the book index to both the front and back covers (if there is no back of the book single page index, available online somewhere, I create my own.) I use heavy-duty clear packing tape to "laminate" the entire front and back covers for rain protection. Then retape the covers to the plate section. Did this with my Ecuador guide on a recent trip and it held up even in heavy heavy rain. You can include the full index with the plates, or not...I don't usually (to save weight) but there were times in Ecuador I wished I had the full index with the plates, so I may do that next time. ************** Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Birding in Bozeman-Yellowstone region From: "Richard Cimino" <rscimino(AT)earthlink.net> Date: 13 May 2008 11:02am Hi All I'll be spending a few weeks in the Bozeman / Yellowstone National Pk. region starting May 23th to June 5th. I'm collecting a list of local hot spots from the Montana State Audubon web site. But I know the locals always have the coolest migrant traps, ditches, small swamps and dead trees that have the best local birds. Anyhow if this posting reach anyone which may have time to bird during the weekday please e mail me . I'm driving and I'm paying for the gas, all you'll have to do is point me in the right direction.
