[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Hudwits From: Richard Baxter <dickbaxter100(AT)GMAIL.COM> Date: 26 May 2008 10:26am ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- Rick Waldrop, a birder from Tennessee, just called to report 2 Hudsonian Godwits on the river side of the levee between the Potlatch paper mill and Arkansas City. Also, there has been a pair of Mottled Ducks hanging out in this area. Good birding! Dick Baxter ----DELETED text/html MIME SECTION----
[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Red-Head Fledging Day From: Anastasia Edwards <anastasiadaisy(AT)YAHOO.COM> Date: 26 May 2008 10:42am This is a multipart message in MIME format. ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- Hi, ARBIRD friends, My parents (NE of Russellville) have a pair of Red-Headed Woodpeckers nesting on their property. Mom called just now to say that she heard a tremendous flurry of activity and went to check it out fearing that there was trouble on the homestead (something invaded the nest last year leaving one of the parents dead). Well, as it turns out, it is fledging day, and the excited youngsters are getting their first taste of the real world while the parents nervously try to keep them corralled, and fed. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Rick Evans Grandview Prairie From: Kelly Chitwood <kchitwood(AT)CABLELYNX.COM> Date: 26 May 2008 8:24pm Spent a few hours this weekend at Rick Evans. Waves of Pale Purple Coneflowers and Mexican Hat Coneflowers moved with the wind. Painted Buntings have become fairly dependable in their perch locations over the weekend. My mother and I found four males and two females. Grasshopper Sparrows are still present. It's interesting, to me anyway, that when I first began to seek PBs, they were rather evasive, so I thought. That isn't to say that I'm making any claims to their numbers or behavior, it's just that now that I'm "used" to seeing them, it isn't unusual to see one or two in the course of a good day out in Pike and Hempstead Counties, albeit fleeting glances are far more common than the satisfying looks we all crave. Back on the Little Missouri, the Louisiana Waterthrush family is down to one offspring, but it's doing well and still cute as can be. They stopped briefly on our deck this morning before disappearing in the vegetation. Cheers! Kelly Chitwood Camden, AR
